Get Rid of Unwanted Hair with Electrolysis

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a hair removal method that involves destroying the hair follicle and, thus, preventing the hair from growing back. It is the only FDA-approved method for the lasting removal of excess hair. It can be used on all types of hair and on all skin tones. Dark-skinned clients who aren’t good candidates for laser hair removal may qualify for electrolysis.

What Does the Procedure Involve?

In electrolysis, a tiny needle that is even thinner than the hair being removed is inserted into the follicle’s opening. A small electrical current then travels from the needle into the follicle and destroys the hair growth cells. Depending on the size of the treatment area, a single session may take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour. It all depends on the unique situation.

Why Do People Need Multiple Treatments?

Hair has a life cycle with three stages: dormant, active and shedding. The hair within any given treatment area will be in different stages at different times. Since we can only remove visible hair, we will inevitably miss the hair in the dormant stage. This is why a series of treatment sessions is required for optimal results.

Additional Considerations

Electrolysis can be used on different parts of the body, but it is usually best for finer hair in sensitive areas, such as above the lip or around the eyebrows. The techniques have improved since electrolysis was first developed in the 19th century. As such, the procedure is more convenient than ever before. The sessions can be scheduled around your other activities if you wish. This procedure can also be used after laser hair removal for thicker, darker hair. We can discuss this option with you in more detail during a consultation at our office.
