The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm® attracts water molecules which hydrate the skin and improve its elasticity. Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs within the body between cells and joints. It provides skin with moisture and gives it a supple appearance. As the body ages, it produces less hyaluronic acid, which causes the skin to lose volume and brings it closer to the facial muscles, creating wrinkles and lines. Juvederm® fills the spaces between the skin and the muscles, which restores volume to the face and results in a younger-looking appearance. Juvederm® can also be used to subtly enhance lips, restore volume to the back of hands, and to lift and contour cheeks.
What are treatment sessions like?
Juvederm® is injected directly into the middle layer of skin using a fine needle. Treatment areas can be numbed to minimize any discomfort. Injection sessions typically take about 15 to 30 minutes depending on the area being treated. Results from Juvederm® injections are immediately visible and can last up to 12 months. Results may vary.
What can I expect post-treatment?
Because Juvederm® is a minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment there is little downtime or recovery following a procedure. Patients are typically able to return to their normal activities immediately following a treatment session. Some patients may experience some slight bruising, swelling, redness, or itching at the injection site, but these side effects are temporary and usually subside within a day or two.
