What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that employs suction to remove fat from areas of the body that can be prone to fatty buildup – including the stomach, thighs, hips, buttocks, arms and neck. Liposuction can also shape these areas. You may have heard liposuction referred to as lipoplasty or body contouring.

Liposuction allows doctors to remove excess fat from your body – and the results are seen immediately. During the procedure, the physician makes a tiny incision and inserts a tube into the deep layer of fat. As the tube moves around, it breaks up fat cells and vacuums them away.

At Mac Medical, our experience with patients has shown us that Tumescent is the most effective form of liposuction.

So if you want to bid farewell to troublesome fat spots and reshape your body, contact Mac Medical.

Tumescent is the most common liposuction procedure. The doctor will inject a sterile solution to help with fat removal and an anesthetic to relieve pain.

The doctor will make tiny incisions into your skin before inserting a thin tube under your skin. This tube connects to a vacuum that will suction fat and fluids from your body.

If you feel any pain at all, let us know. We can adjust medications as needed.

Liposuction procedures can take as much as several hours to complete, but others are done in less time. Duration of the procedure depends on how much fat is being removed.

After your liposuction, you may feel some pain and experience swelling and bruising. This is normal, but you might have to miss a few days of work, and it may be a few weeks before you can return to your normal activities – including exercise.

You may require pain medication after liposuction, and antibiotics may be used to decrease the risk of infection.  following the procedure, you are fitted with a compression garment to help reduce swelling. During this time, you may see some contour irregularities as remaining fat settles.

Included with our Liposuction procedure is a complimentary ultrasound massage approximately three weeks post-procedure.  We also offer a series of three additional ultrasounds for purchase.

At Mac Medical, our patients who have undergone liposuction say they are pleased with their new looks and happy that they came to us for help!
