Top Reasons for Premature Facial Wrinkles and How to Curb Them

January 22, 2018 by

botox

As you get older, you may have noticed that you are getting facial wrinkles. While this is a normal part of aging, the truth is you may be getting facial wrinkles prematurely, and you may be the one contributing to them. You can, however, get treatments such as BOTOX® which can help get rid of the wrinkles. To learn more about BOTOX and how it can help, call MacMed Spa Salon and Medical today.

Premature wrinkles may be due to many things, including:

Smoking

There is no limit to what smoking can do, and damaging your skin is one of them. Thus, you may end up with wrinkles in the skin prematurely. Smoking makes your blood vessels narrower making the transportation of oxygen, nutrients, and blood an uphill task. What’s more, whenever a smoker takes a puff, they purse the lips and lines can form above the mouth. The smoke from the cigarette also breaks down elastin and collagen, both of which are significant in keeping the skin flexible and firm. Unfortunately, even non-smokers can be affected by secondhand smoke.

Sun Exposure

The sun is an excellent source of vitamin D, which is vital to the skin. However, too much of it will make you look older than you are. UV rays damage elastin and collagen, making the skin develop wrinkles prematurely. Ensure that you use sunscreen every time you step into the sun.

Facial Expressions

Even seemingly harmless acts such as making facial expressions can cause the associated muscles to contract, leading to wrinkling of the skin. Such facial expressions include squinting at your computer screen, squinting against the sun, or making movements on your face that cause furrowing, such as a rise in your brows or even just a smile. You can’t do anything about smiling, and nor would you want to, but you can get your eyes checked to reduce squinting and wear sunglasses when outdoors.

Lack of Sleep

Lack of sleep prompts your body to produce more cortisol, which breaks down collagen, therefore contributing to the formulation of wrinkles. You should also be aware that your skin regenerates when you sleep, so not getting enough sleep means you are depriving your skin of therapeutic benefits.

Rubbing Your Eyes

If you are always rubbing your skin because of irritation, then you are speeding up the formation of facial wrinkles. Sagging of the skin around the eyes is also caused by rubbing of the eyes too. Try eye drops to relieve dry, itchy eyes.

Not Drinking Enough Water

Collagen is mostly composed of water and helps your skin to stay supple as well as youthful. It is therefore essential to drink enough water to replenish it. If you fail to, then be ready to see more lines forming on your skin. You also become susceptible to cell damage when you are dehydrated.

BOTOX® treatment works by improving and relaxing frown lines between the eyes and the forehead. Book an appointment with us at MacMed Spa Salon and Medical and get a consultation for BOTOX® treatment to help reduce the look of facial wrinkles.
