Treating an Overactive Bladder with Botox

Everyone knows that Botox treats wrinkles, but many people don’t know that Botox can be used to treat many other ailments – among them, overactive bladder. This use of Botox has been discovered recently and from it we have seen many people resolve their bladder issues after Botox treatment.

At MacMad Salon, Spa and Medical – with locations in Milford, Framingham and Hopedale – we offer Botox treatments for a variety of issues. If you struggle from overactive bladder, contact MacMed Salon and Spa to find out if Botox is the right solution for you.

If you suffer from an overactive bladder, then you know the feeling of having to urinate frequently, sometimes with bladder leakage or incontinence. However, there is a new solution – that has been FDA-approved. It has been proven that injections of Botox are as effective as the pills, with results lasting nine months to a year.

As with traditional Botox injections, the treatment must be administered repeatedly over time to maintain results.  The results of each injection can last up to one year in some cases, but the injections will need to be re-administered to prevent symptoms from returning.

In a study performed by the FDA in January, 2013, patients who were given the Botox injections reported experiencing urinary incontinence 1.6 to 1.9 times less per day, on average, as compared to patients who were only given a placebo. The Botox treatments also reduced the need to urinate 1.0 to 1.7 times less per day, on average.

The Botox treatment is injected into the bladder muscles to help relax the muscles, allowing for a higher bladder storage capacity.  Our professional staff is highly trained on the Botox treatment, and is available to answer any questions you may have.

The FDA reports that common side effects of using Botox injections to treat overactive bladder include urinary tract infections, painful urination, and urinary retention.

These studies show the effectiveness that Botox treatments can provide for an overactive bladder. You, too can experience these results with the treatment by our staff at MacMed Spa, Salon and Medical.
